Summary & Valuation
Some notes about our surveys:
a. We use the usual range of physical, moisture, and
chemical tests and checks, and will also cross refer to internet
databases and other sources to find out as much as possible about your
type of vessel and its construction materials.
b. We will try to carry out as thorough a survey as
you require and to make as clear recommendations as possible, in a
detailed report which will be commensurate with the type of survey
undertaken.
c. We do not have any professional link to any
repair agent, marine products supplier, boatyard, or paint/coatings
scheme. We are entirely independent and impartial.
d. Most surveys involve study, observation, and
measurement, but a certain amount of testing will always be required.
Such testing is generally non-destructive although careful measurement
of hull structural condition, and particularly the underwater area of
glass fibre (FRP) vessels, will (usually) require removal of very small
test patches of antifouling or other coatings in order to take accurate
measurements. Clients should also be aware that in a survey, items and
fittings which may already be in very poor condition may also be
disturbed or even broken by close scrutiny, analysis, and even light
‘stress testing’.
e. From time to time we may need to seek external
advice from a specialist (in, for example, marine engineering,
electronics, corrosion, steelwork, rigging, sails etc). We will
generally advise you when this is required, particularly because such
specialists may require payment for their time, or for subsequent
in-depth quotes.
f. Generally, where remedial work or specialist advice
or repairs are required we will often be able to assist in sourcing or
advising in relevant quotes and costings.
Obviously our reports will vary depending on the type of vessel being surveyed
